Recycling Bakelite is challenging because it's a thermoset plastic, but new methods like pyrolysis, which breaks it down into useful chemicals, and using it as an aggregate in concrete are being developed.
For industrial scraps, mechanical recycling can be used, where the material is ground down and incorporated as a filler in other materials or as an antioxidant.
We are also exploring the use of bio-based phenols to create more sustainable, plant-derived resins.
